Neighborhood based heuristics for a Two-level Hierarchical Location Problem with modular node capacities

چکیده
In many telecommunication network architectures a given set of client nodes must be served by different kinds of facility, which provide different services and have different capabilities. Such facilities must be located and dimensioned in the design phase. We tackle a particular location problem in which two sets of facilities, mid level and high level, have to be located. Different devices can be installed in each mid level facility, providing different capacities at different costs. The assignment of clients to facilities and of facilities to higher level entities must be optimized, as well. We propose a heuristic approach, based on very large scale neighborhood search, to tackle the problem, in which both ad-hoc algorithms and general purpose solvers are applied to explore the search space. We report on experimental results using datasets of instances from the literature. These experiments show that the approach is promising and that Integer Linear Programming based neighborhoods are significantly effective.

Investigating Zone Pricing in a Location-Routing Problem Using a Variable Neighborhood Search Algorithm
In this paper, we assume a firm tries to determine the optimal price, vehicle route and location of the depot in each zone to maximise its profit. Therefore, in this paper zone pricing is studied which contributes to the literature of location-routing problems (LRP). Zone pricing is one of the most important pricing policies that are prevalently used by many companies. The proposed problem is v...

This paper presents a new mathematical model, in which the location of hubs is fixed and their capacity is determined based on facilities and factories allocated to it. In order to feed the client's nodes, different types of vehicles of different capacities are considered, in which the clients are allocated to hubs, and types and numbers of vehicles are allocated to the factory's facilities. To...

In this research, a hierarchical location-allocation problem is modeled in a queue framework. The queue model is considered as M/M/1/k, in which system capacity is finite, equals to k. This is the main contribution of the current research. Customer's enters to the system in order to find the service according to a Poisson. In this problem, the hierarchical location-allocation model is considere...

The hub location problem is employed for many real applications, including delivery, airline and telecommunication systems and so on. This work investigates on hierarchical hub network in which a three-level network is developed. The central hubs are considered at the first level, at the second level, hubs are assumed which are allocated to central hubs and the remaining nodes are at the third ...
